Manuscriptorium
Status: under continuous development; regular up-dating
Manuscriptorium is a virtual research environment for the sphere of historical resources.
In collaboration with the National Library of the Czech Republic and other major Czech and foreign partners, access is provided to some 100,000 catalogue records and over a million images of digitised documents, mainly from our digitisation studios. On a European level, this is the most extensive digital library providing access to scarce manuscripts. The project has been designed from the start as open to data from a variety of sources.
A fundamental component of the Manuscriptorium system is the catalogue, containing descriptions of historical documents and serving amongst other things as a point of access for the display of digital copies as required. It incorporates information provided by collaborating partners and contributors from libraries, archives and museums at home and abroad. Some documents are accompanied by full texts.
The operation of Manuscriptorium is financed by the National Library of the Czech Republic and the technical director of the service is AiP Beroun s.r.o.
Manuscriptorium for schools - a special module superimposed on the common database, using certain display interfaces of the original Manuscriptorium. The basic idea and objective of the project is to select the most important documents of interest for teaching in primary and secondary schools and to render them accessible in order to enhance the curriculum.
